It models the actual car movements, including speed of making the turn, not just whether it 'can' be done. I feel that this gives a more accurate (and more conservative) result. But it may be perfect for what you want!ДЄlso, AutoTrack (and AutoTurn I assume) has vehicle dependent turning rates, so you can set the speed (like 5 MPH) and the turning rate 'lock to lock time' (time it takes to turn the steering wheel).

That made it much more difficult to use, because you have to define the vehicle that you are using without very much information on HOW to define the vehicle. I was not confident that this lisp is giving accurate results, particularly because it depends on ME correctly imputing the vehicle dimensions and features. I tried it out before buying AutoTrack, but was wanting something easier and more 'sure'. It is a lisp routine which models turning. If what you mean by simple is 'inexpensive', then turn.lsp should work. I also like that it has a 'follow the line' mode, where you draw a polyline for the vehicle to follow. It has a lot of available vehicles including California standard vehicles, AASHTO vehicles, and some smaller 'presentation' vehicles like a Mini and a Ford Focus. It was slightly more expensive than AutoTurn for a single license, but much less expensive for a network license. With the dongle, we can have it installed on multiple machines, and just use the dongle where needed. We went with AutoTrack because I liked it a little better, and it has the option of using a USB dongle for the license. I am not sure if it is simpler that AutoTurn (which I thought was pretty easy to use too, but different). Note if you are not using the middle of the steered axle as the key point but somewhere else on the vehicle these speed adjustments become amplified due to the geometry of vehicle movements.I use AutoTrack. You need to make an engineering judgment in your use case to accept the slower speed or adjust the poly line to approximate the spirals that the vehicle would follow as it transitions into the corners.

I often see swept paths of vehicles following lines which claim to have been done at speed but in fact the user has opted to allow the wheels to turn on the spot thus removing the speed spiral all together, i believe that vehicle trackings process of attempting to drive at the requested speed and report on the speed needed to exactly follow the line is more honest.

Vehicle Tracking will start with the speed selected in the model and try to follow the line, if any part of the turn can not be exactly carried out it will slow the vehicle down and try with the resulting tighter spiral. The issue is your polyline will be made up of arc's tangentially joining other arcs or straight sections, where as the vehicle turns through a spiral based on its speed and lock to lock time. The reduced speed is all down to vehicle tracking making the controlling point on the chassis (Usually the center of the front axle) exactly follow the picked polyline.
